Thank you to all the wonderful customers who came to the Southside Handmade & Vintage Market yesterday. It was a fabulous festive day especially with Pride March happening outside in Fitzroy Street.
Don't forget that we will be back at Southside on Sunday 11 March for the last one at its current location of The Urban Hotel :( before the relocation to the St Kilda RSL in April. The relocation also brings with it a brand new day. Southside will then be held on the last Saturday of each month.

Utilising some old beading supplies we are fundraising for the Wall of Hands Appeal. What is the Wall of Hands Appeal? Wall of Hands is The Australian Literacy & Numeracy Foundation's campaign to raise awareness of illiteracy issues facing Indigenous Australians within remote communities of Australia:
"For every five kids living in remote Indigenous communities, only one will be able to read at the minimum standard". Source: Wall of Hands.
We are very proud to be involved with this initiative and with the acknowledgement and support of the ALNF, however we do need 'a hand'.
50% of the purchase price of these items will be donated to the Wall of Hands.

28/08/11 - Introducing Handmade Expressions from India!
We have been speaking about it for a couple of months and now we can finally announce the arrival of our brand new handmade and fair trade products from India ~ Handmade Expressions!
Who are Handmade Expressions?
Based in the Himalayan region India, this Fair Trade organization was founded in 2005 by Manish Gupta. Prior to the establishment of Handmade Expressions, Manish was a very successful businessman in the USA. He did however yearn for something more. Upon hearing of Fair Trade for the first time, Manish traveled back to his birthplace of Rajasthan, India. It was here that he learned of people ‘surviving’ on less than a dollar a day… It was time to make a difference to the world. Manish teamed with several non government agencies and coop’s in the empowerment of artisans, creating handcrafted products, ensuring regular ethical employment and a regular sustainable income. Manish soon needed to employ two groups to maintain the development of this flourishing enterprise. One group based in India working with the artisans, the other in the USA nurturing the Sales & Marketing. Hence Handmade Expressions was born. Further to Handmade Expressions main objective, they are very proactive in education and development projects throughout India. And as he is still very much driven today as he was in 2005, Manish was appointed a position on the Board of Directors of the Fair Trade Federation for the year 2008-2009.
